OKINAWA (TR) – Okinawa Prefectural Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly smuggling approximately 6 kilograms of methamphetamine from Thailand last year, reports Jiji Press (Jan. 20).
On September 30, Takaya Okamoto is alleged to have arrived at Naha Airport on an international flight from Thailand with the 6 kilograms of kakuseizai (methamphetamine) concealed in two suitcases.
The contraband has a street value of approximately 340 million yen.
Law enforcement has not revealed whether Okamoto admits to violating the Stimulants Control Act. He was prosecuted on Tuesday.
The drugs were hidden in small plastic bags hidden in packaging for snacks.
According to the Okinawa District Customs Office, this is the largest seizure of methamphetamine at Naha Airport.
