Man suspected of posing as taxi driver and sexually assaulting drunk woman has ‘no recollection’

TOKYO — Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 38-year-old man over the alleged sexual assault of an intoxicated woman whom he tricked by posing as a taxi driver two years ago, reports TBS News (Apr. 23).

Yutaka Fukuda, a part-time worker, is accused of sexually assaulting the victim, a woman in her 20s, on a street in Shinagawa Ward in October 2024.

Upon his arrest, the suspect completely denied the allegations. “I have no recollection of this,” Fukuda was quoted as telling police.

According to investigators, the victim was highly intoxicated and sitting on the ground when Fukuda approached her. Acting under the guise of a helpful cab driver, he called out to her, saying, “It looks like you can’t walk, so I’ll give you a ride.”

Instead of placing her in a taxi, however, Fukuda put the incapacitated woman on his motorcycle. He then transported her approximately 700 meters to another location before committing the assault.

Fukuda emerged as a suspect following a thorough analysis of security camera footage in the surrounding area.
