ISHIKAWA – Police in Kanazawa City have arrested a 20-year-old man on suspicion of fraud after he racked up an enormous bill at a hostess club despite having less than 200 yen to his name, reports TBS News (June 25).
The suspect, whose occupation and address remain unknown, is accused of ordering massive quantities of champagne, tequila, and other drinks at a kyabakura (hostess club) in the Katamachi entertainment district.
The binge lasted for over six hours, starting at around 8:30 p.m. on June 23 and continuing until after 3:00 a.m. the following day.
When it came time to settle the exorbitant 3.65-million-yen tab, club employees realized the man could not pay. A staff member called police, reporting a customer attempting a dine-and-dash.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found the man still waiting inside the establishment. Upon searching him, investigators discovered his total carrying cash amounted to a mere 197 yen.
During police questioning, the suspect was surprisingly compliant. “I will not make any excuses for this fraud,” he reportedly told officers.
Police are currently investigating his motive and looking into whether he has committed similar dine-and-dash offenses at other venues.
