AICH (TR) – They were testing their courage — and they found a corpse while doing it.
Aichi Prefectural Police last month launched an investigation after a group of male youths on a dare found a corpse in the ruins of a hotel in Okazaki City, reports (Apr. 29).
At around 3 a.m. on April 29, the group entered an abandoned hotel in Hachijicho and found the skeletal remains inside a room on the second floor.
According to police, the approximate age and gender of the person are unknown. However, the person appears to be an adult. The body was clothed in a light-colored shirt, dark pants and yellow sneakers.
The building where the incident occurred is located in the mountains and was previously used as a hotel but has been abandoned for over 10 years.
In addition to the remains, a rope was lying nearby, suggesting the case is the result of a suicide, police said.
Police are now working to identify the body.
Cases referred to prosecutors in the past
It is not clear how the youths entered the hotel, but in the past there have been cases where such person were referred to prosecutors on suspicion of violating the minor offenses law for entering restricted areas.
Since there is a risk of injury or accident, police urge people not to enter such areas.
