Inmate in his 40s hangs himself with pajama pants in Yokohama Prison

KANAGAWA (TR) – Yokohama Prison announced on Monday that a male inmate in his 40s has died in an apparent suicide inside his single cell, reports Jiji Press (Oct. 19).

According to the penal facility, a patrolling prison guard discovered the man hanging by his neck at approximately 2:03 p.m. on Sunday. The inmate had used his pajama pants as a makeshift noose, tying them to the iron bars of the cell’s window.

He was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where he was formally pronounced dead.

While no suicide note was discovered in the cell, authorities believe the man took his own life based on the circumstances of the scene at the time of discovery.
