SAITAMA (TR) – Police in Fukaya City have arrested a 21-year-old Indonesian woman on suspicion of abandoning the corpse of her newborn daughter inside her residence, reports TV Asahi (May 23).
Tripita Lestari is accused of hiding the infant’s body at her home sometime around December of last year. According to police, she gave birth alone and placed the newborn’s remains into a plastic bag.
No external injuries were found on the infant’s body.
Upon her arrest on suspicion of abandoning a corpse, Lestari admitted to the allegations, telling investigators she concealed the death because she feared for her livelihood.
“I thought that if my company found out about the baby’s body, I would be fired and caught by the police, so I hid it,” she was quoted as saying.
Lestari entered Japan in October 2025 as a technical intern.
The case came to light after police received a tip-off that Lestari had previously appeared pregnant but showed no signs of actually raising a child. Acting on the information, officers searched her residence and made the discovery.
Prefectural police are investigating the cause of death.
