Gunma firefighter accused of stalking ex-mistress, puncturing car tire with nail

GUNMA (TR) – Police here have arrested a 34-year-old firefighter for allegedly puncturing the car tire of his former mistress, marking his second arrest in connection with a relentless stalking campaign against her, reports Fuji News Network (July 10).

Hiroki Kurihara, who works at the Ora Fire Station, is accused of driving a nail into the tire of a vehicle belonging to a woman in her 30s around mid-June. He was seen being loaded into a police vehicle on Friday morning.

“I punctured the [the tire of her] vehicle,” Kurihara told investigators, admitting to the charge of property damage.

According to police, Kurihara and the victim previously had an extramarital affair.

The incident follows Kurihara’s prior arrest on June 18 for violating the stalker control law. Police say he repeatedly bombarded the woman with messages demanding they resume their relationship, sending texts such as, “Make things clear,” and “Can we talk?”

In addition to the barrage of messages, investigators suspect Kurihara secretly attached a GPS tracking device to the woman’s car in order to monitor her whereabouts.

Police believe the tire-slashing incident was fueled by a growing grudge after his attempts to rekindle the romance were rejected by the victim.
