TOKYO (TR) – Freelance television announcer Kasumi Mori revealed she was forced to move out of her apartment over safety fears following an unnerving face-to-face encounter with a local postal worker.
Speaking on the ABEMA TV program “Uraaka Uraraka” on October 10, the popular broadcaster detailed her frustrations with the modern package delivery system and the terrifying realization that prompted her to pack her bags.
Mori explained that she regularly uses the okihai (doorstep drop-off) system specifically to avoid interacting with delivery personnel. However, she expressed irritation at workers who ring the intercom and linger outside her door.
“There is no point to doorstep delivery if they stick around,” Mori complained on the show. “I use the service because I don’t want to meet them face-to-face.”

The situation escalated when Mori was forced to physically sign for a piece of registered mail. Because she receives mail under her real name, the delivery man took the opportunity to single out the television personality.
“He looked at me and asked, ‘You are Kasumi Mori, aren’t you?'” she recalled.
Realizing that postal workers are assigned to specific local routes, Mori panicked at the thought of the man knowing her exact address and repeatedly returning to her home.
“The area is fixed, which means the same person is going to keep coming,” Mori said. “I thought, ‘This is dangerous,’ so I moved.”
Veteran actor Tomio Umezawa, who also appeared on the program, offered a contrasting view on the delivery system. Umezawa defended drivers who ring the bell, noting that it helps prevent package theft.
“It’s a kindness, isn’t it? There are people out there who steal drop-off packages. I’ve had one taken from my house before,” he said.
