OITA (TR) – Police are investigating a possible suicide pact after the bodies of four adults were discovered inside a residence in Yufu City on Tuesday, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 23).
At approximately 4:10 p.m., officers from the Oita Minami Police Station found the bodies of one man and three women inside a two-story home in the Nishichoho area of Shonaicho. All four deceased individuals are believed to be members of the same family residing at the property.
Investigators discovered charcoal briquettes inside the home, leading them to suspect the family may have taken their own lives in a coordinated suicide pact.
According to police, the house was completely locked from the inside, with all windows and doors secured. There were no noticeable external injuries on any of the bodies, and their clothing was undisturbed, suggesting no signs of a struggle.
The grim discovery was made after a female relative visited the residence earlier in the afternoon. At around 2:55 p.m., she placed an emergency call to police, telling dispatchers, “There is no response from inside the house.”
Police are currently rushing to formally identify the victims and determine the exact cause of death.
