YAMAGUCHI (TR) – Yamaaguchi Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a male corpse at a villa in Shimonoseki City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 19).

At around midnight on Monday, a man telephoned police to report “sounds from a neighbor’s house.” An officer from the Kogushi Police Station arriving at the villa, located in the town of Hohoku, found the unclothed body of the man on the premises.

“At around 11:30 p.m., there was the sound of a car,” the witness is quoted by TBS News (Dec. 19). “After that, I heard the door closing and some odd rustling. I thought it was strange.”

The witness said that he also saw a suspicious person on the second floor of the villa. The car mentioned previously later departed the area in the direction of Shimonoseki.

According to police, the body, likely that of a man aged between 50 and 80, did not have any external wounds. He is believed to have died several days before the discovery.

The villa, owned by a man in his 70s, is located near a popular swimming area that is not used regularly in the winter. The premises is usually unoccupied.

Police are now working to identify the body. The results of an autopsy to be conducted on Monday will be used to determine the cause of death.

Police suspect that the sounds the neighbor heard from a person dumping the body. The case is being treated as corpse abandonment.
