TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Tuesday arrested a 33-year-old painter for allegedly stabbing a man he suspects was engaged in an affair with his wife, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 4).
At 8:25 p.m. on Monday, Hisamasa Yamashita is alleged to have used a kitchen knife to stab the man, 44, in the abdomen at his office, located inside an apartment in the Oizumi area of Nerima Ward. According to the Hikarigaoka Police Station, the wounds are considered serious and a recovery time frame is not known.
Yamashita, who has been charged with attempted murder, has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “I went to confront him about his relationship with my wife,” the suspect is quoted by police, according to TV Asahi (Aug. 4). “But his attitude put me in a difficult position, so I stabbed him twice.”
The suspect fled the scene after the incident, and the victim telephoned emergency services.
At just after 11:00 p.m. that same day, Yamashita turned himself into officers at the Hikarigaoka Police Station.
