TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Sunday announced the bust of a casino in Shinjuku Ward for permitting illegal gambling, reports TBS News (Sep. 20).
On September 13, officers raided parlor X, located in the Kabukicho entertainment area, and took manager Toru Inomata, 45, into custody for allowing customers to place baccarat and slot wagers on computers connected to an overseas site.
Inomata admits to the allegations. “Because I have debts of 300 million yen, I started a casino in a get-rich-quick scheme,” the suspect is quoted by police.
Three customers inside the premises at the time of the raid were also arrested.
The casino sold points, priced at 100 yen each, to customers who in turn could later exchange them for cash. The operation had generated approximately 40 million yen in revenue since November of last year.
