Tokyo cops: Pair targeted furnished apartments in theft of household goods

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a man and woman suspected in the theft of multiple items from furnished apartments across the capital since last year, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 30).

In December, Shoichi Nemoto and Michiko Sakuma, both 49, allegedly sneaked into a furnished apartment in Chuo Ward and stole a number of household appliances.

The pair is believed to have gained accessed to a number of apartments via a book of about 10 keys that they had in their possession.

“Stolen TVs were sold on the internet,” one of the suspects is quoted by police.

Police suspect that the pair was behind about 25 such thefts in the metropolis since May.
