TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a member of a city council in Kanagawa Prefecture for allegedly molesting a woman inside a train car in Minato Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 9).
At 11:55 p.m. on Monday, Tokuro Suga, a 44-year-old councilor for Chigasaki City, allegedly rubbed the buttocks of the woman, 24, inside a car of the JR Tokaido Main Line that was stopped at Shinagawa Station.
Suga, who has been charged with violating a public nuisance ordinance, denies the charges. “I didn’t do it,” the suspect is quoted.
After the woman noticed Suga’s actions, she grabbed his hand and alerted station personnel.
Suga, a member of New Komeito, is serving his first term as city councilor.
Update: The Tokyo District Court has decided to not prosecute Suga, reports TV Asahi (Oct. 21). There was no reason given for the decision.
