TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are searching for a man suspected in the robbery of nearly 500,000 yen from a convenience store in Machida City early Monday, reports TBS News (Apr. 17).
At around 2:00 a.m., the man entered an outlet of 7-Eleven, located in the Aiharamachi area, and thrust a fruit knife in front of a male cashier, 26, while demanding money. “You have a safe, don’t you,” he threatened.
The man then ordered the cashier to fill a carry bag with cash from a register and the safe in the office. He then fled the scene with the bag, which was estimated to have 470,000 yen in cash inside.
The cashier was not hurt in the incident.
The perpetrator stands around 170 centimeters in height. Believed to be in his 20s or 30s, he was dressed in black at the time of the incident. Police are seeking his whereabouts on suspicion of robbery.
