TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly stealing a necklace from an outlet of discount department store chain Don Quijote in Adachi Ward, reports Nippon News Network (April 5).

At around noon on Monday, Takuya Okazaki, a carpenter, tried on a necklace, valued at 240,00 yen, while posing as a customer and ran off with the merchandise.

The manager of the outlet then chased Okazaki. But the suspect evaded capture temporarily by poking the manager in both eyes with his thumbs.

Police officers arriving at the scene eventually apprehended Okazaki, who denies the charges. “I didn’t steal the necklace,” the suspect is quoted by police. “I was chased mistakenly; I am not the criminal.”
