TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 39-year-old man for assaulting and robbing a female prostitute inside a hotel in Shibuya Ward last year, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 9).

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on November 29, Takashi Shimazu is alleged to have strangled the neck of the woman until she passed out and stole 200,000 yen in cash from her purse inside a room of the hotel, located in the Dogenzaka area.

Shimazu and the woman had met on a deai-kei matchmaking site.

Shimizu, who has been charged with robbery, admits to the allegations. “I wanted a relationship and got upset after she demanded money,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Police identified Shimizu as a person of interest through evidence left at the scene of the crime.

Shimizu had accumulated more than one million yen in debt, according to TBS News (Feb. 9). Police are now investigating whether he has participated in similar crimes.
