TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are searching for two persons following a robbery on a street in the ritzy Ginza area of Chuo Ward on Friday, reports NHK (Apr. 21).
At around 1:30 p.m., a male member of the group came up from behind a businessman walking in the 5-chome area and struck him in the abdomen, knocking him to the ground. The perpetrator then grabbed the victim’s bag, containing 72 million yen in cash, according to the Tsukiji Police Station.
The assailant then jumped on the back of a motorcycle driven by an associate. They were last seen fleeing the scene in the direction of Shimbashi.
During the robbery, the initial perpetrator dropped a portion of the cash but he is still believed to have gotten away with a large sum.
The man who snatched the bag was wearing a blue jacket and jeans. The driver of the motorcycle wore a white helmet and black clothing. Police are seeking the whereabouts of the two persons on suspicion of robbery.
The incident took place near a number of high-end shops featuring goods from fashion brands, not far from Ginza Station.
