TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Friday announced the bust of two transvestite clubs featuring Thai hostesses in Yushima district of Bunkyo Ward for illegal employment, reports TBS News (Nov. 15).
On Wednesday, officers raided Kradanga and arrested the 29-year-old Thai manager for employing foreign nationals residing in Japan on student visas — a violation of immigration laws.
Law enforcement also took the 31-year-old Thai manager of Songrak into custody on the same charges.
Officers also arrested a total five employees from both clubs. All seven suspects have reportedly admitted to the allegations. “I thought Japan’s laws were lenient,” the manger of Kradanga is quoted by police.
According to the Songrak Web site, charges at the club begin at 5,000 yen for the first hour.
With violations on the rise, law enforcement has created a pamphlet (written in a number of languages, including Chinese and Thai) that warns women from overseas of the consequences of employment in the fuzoku trade, which is the adult-entertainment industry.
