TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Wednesday raided a pachinko parlor operating illegally in Minato Ward, reports the Mainichi Broadcasting System (Oct. 10).
Police took the 18-year-old male manager of the parlor, located in the Shimbashi district, into custody for allowing customers to wager on 36 high-return pachisuro (pachinko slot) machines considered to be in violation of the law.
The manager has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “I did it to earn money to operate a restaurant,” the suspect is quoted by police.
Officers also arrested a 37-year-old male office worker who was a customer at the time of the raid.
At the entrance to the parlor, a security camera monitored customers entering the premises.
According to police, the operation has collected 150 million yen in revenue since it opened approximately one year ago.
