TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Tuesday raided an Internet casino in the Tachikawa City for permitting illegal gambling, reports TV Asahi (July 4).
Officers took Hayato Yamauchi, the 41-year-old manager of Palm Cafe, and a 22-year-old male employee into custody for providing roulette gambling on 10 computers connected to an overseas site.
Yamauchi has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “I did it to make a living,” the suspect is quoted by police.
The operation sold points, priced at 100 yen each, to customers who in turn could later exchange them for cash.
According to TBS News (July 4), the operation had generated one million yen in revenue since June of last year.
In an effort to evade a crackdown, Palm Cafe had cameras installed at the entrance to observe of customers entering and departing the premises.
