TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Tuesday arrested a bar host in Shinjuku Ward for demanding cash from his girlfriend and threatening to harm her family, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Oct. 28).
Officers charged Hiroyuki Hashimoto, a 25-year-old host in the Kabukicho red-light district, with extortion after he allegedly demanded his girlfriend sign a promissory note worth three million yen on August 20.
Hashimoto, who had already been arrested for assault in a separate case in September, also threatened to kill her family if she did not comply.
The suspect has reportedly admitted to the allegations.
The woman, who is in her 20s, met Hashimoto through his club, where he works under the name Yozora Taiyo.
In July, police allege that Hashimoto beat another woman, also in her 20s. In the incident, the suspect tied up the woman, who suffered broken bones in her back.
