TOKYO (TR) – A suicide attempt by a 33-year-old Korean male on Saturday lead Tokyo Metropolitan Police to the discovery of his girlfriend’s body inside a hotel room in Minato Ward, reports the Asahi Shimbun (May 3).
According to police, Kim Kun Woo killed his girlfriend, also a Korean national, inside a room at the Hotel Nikko Tokyo early Saturday morning. Kim then fled the property.
Police later received a tip from a witness indicating that a man, later identified as Kim, was threatening to jump off a multi-story car park found about 400 meters from the hotel. Kim was subsequently taken into protective custody.
After questioning Kim, police discovered the body of his girlfriend, who was in her 20s, atop a bed in the room.
Kim has reportedly admitted to the allegations. “We got into a fight after drinking, I got angry, and then strangled her with my hands,” the suspect is quote by police.
The couple arrived in Japan on a sightseeing trip last month.
