TOKYO (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police on Monday announced the bust of a maid cafe in the Nipponbashi district of Osaka for inflating the bills of customers, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 15).
Officers took Katsumi Kamioka, the 62-year-old manager of Maid Rimu, into custody for padding bills of customers — a violation of the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses.
Police reportedly received a number of complaints from customers who were lured into the cafe under the pretense that a fee of 5,000 yen for 30 minutes would be applied, but were instead presented with bills for 7,500 yen.
A report inside Weekly Playboy (Oct. 28, 2012) indicates that Maid Rimu has a reputation for charging customers inflated prices.
The cafe, which is located along the Otaku Road loop, was previously busted on September 1 for employing a 14-year-old girl — a violation of the Labor Standards Act regarding employment of minors.
The cafe opened for business again within weeks, but was still reportedly charging exorbitant prices and employing a 15-year-old waitress.
