OSAKA (TR) – A 75-year-old woman was fatally struck by a subway train on Friday after she climbed down onto the tracks at Kitakagaya Station in what appears to have been a suicide, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 7).
At 12:20 p.m., the woman was struck by a Yotsubashi Line train at the station, located in Suminoe Ward. The train was bound for Sumie Koen Station.
The woman was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital. There were no injuries to the approximately 90 persons on the train.
A note containing a will was found in her pocket.
According to officers from the Suminoe Police Station, surveillance camera footage showed the woman descending from the platform to the tracks.
After the incident, the Yotsubashi Line was suspended in both directions for one hour and 24 minutes. Approximately 12,500 commuters were inconvenienced due to the delay.
