NARA (TR) – Nara Prefectural Police have arrested a 35-year-old construction worker after he admitted to dumping a corpse on an abandoned property in Katsuragi City, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Mar. 13).

Early Monday morning, police searching the property, located in the Ota area, found the body, of unknown gender, buried in a garden. The body, which had decayed slightly, was clothed in a jacket and pants.

Police subsequently arrested Toshiyuki Uemura, a resident of Kashiba, on charges of abandoning a corpse.

The property, which is owned by a relative of the suspect, also consists of a two-floor wood structure and other buildings. The suspect is believed to have buried the body at the site sometime between December 29 and March 12.

Uemura confessed to the crime while undergoing questioning in the disappearance of a 68-year-old man. The suspect was the last known point of contact before he went missing.

Police are now attempting to confirm the identity of the body. They are also investigating whether to apply murder charges to the suspect.
