TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 25-year-old man for the possession of cocaine with a street value of 30 million yen in Shinjuku Ward, reports Nippon News Network (April 18).

During questioning by police in November of last year, Yoshinori Tanita was found to be in possession of a block of cocaine weighing 500 grams in a pants pocket on a street in the Kabukicho red-light district.

Tanita, who has been charged with possession of cocaine with an intent to sell, denies the charges. “I got it from a foreigner,” the suspect was quoted by police. “I didn’t know looking after it was illegal.”

Police are now attempting to determine how the suspect obtained the drugs.
