TOKYO (TR) – In light of numerous complaints, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police hosted a legal seminar for bar and restaurant managers in the Shinjuku 2-chome gay quarter, reports Nippon News Network (April 21).
Approximately 150 proprietors in the quarter were in attendance to learn how to comply with the Law Regulating Adult Entertainment Businesses.
The 2-chome area includes approximately 600 bars and restaurants catering to primarily gay clientele. Over the past year, police have received approximately 450 complaints regarding businesses operating illegally in the area.
On March 5, officers from the Yotsuya Police Station, took Takayo Ogasawara, the 32-year-old manager of bar Discover, into custody for providing customers with entertainment, such as the use a karaoke machine, after 1 a.m. without a proper license under the adult-entertainment law.
