KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police are investigating what is believed to have been a murder-suicide in an apartment in Kawasaki City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (April 30).

At 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, police received a call from a man who claimed he had just shot himself in the abdomen.

Officers arriving at the residence, located in Nakahara Ward, found the bodies of Tokutaro Takahashi, 63, his wife, 57-year-old Kimiko, collapsed in the living room. A shotgun was also found inside.

Both persons were rushed to a nearby hospital where they were later confirmed dead.

Police suspect that Tokutaro Takahashi killed his wife with the shotgun and then shot himself.

The couple lived with their 29-year-old son.

Police believe that Takahashi had received a license from the prefectural public safety commission to possess the shotgun.
