HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police on Wednesday arrested a 45-year-old man after mummified remains believed to belong to his father were found inside his residence in Kobe, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Dec. 20).
On Tuesday night, police entered the residence of Naoyuki Nakagawa, located in Nada Ward, and found the remains lying face-up atop a futon in a first-floor room. Police believe the body belongs to Nakagawa’s father, 71-year-old Mikio.
Nakagawa, who has been accused of abandoning a corpse, admits to the allegations. “We were living apart until several months ago,” the suspect was quoted by police. “After his condition took a turn for the worst, he came to live with me.”
Police entered the residence after a male cousin of Nakagawa contacted police to report that he had been unable to contact the suspect since November.
Police are now seeking to determine the cause of death of Mikio.
