HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police are questioning a man and his sister after the discovery of a body, believed to be that of their younger sister, inside the residence they all share in Sapporo, reports the Sankei Shimbun (May 5).

On Thursday, officers from the Minami Police Station visited the home, located in the Kawazoecho area of Minami Ward, and found partially mummifed remains likely belonging to the woman, aged in her 60s.

The body did not have any external wounds.

The woman’s brother and sister, both aged in their 70s, have not offered a clear explanation about the body. Police are treating the case as abandonment of a corpse.

An autopsy has been ordered to determine the cause of death.

Police entered the premises after the daughter of the landlord consulted with police about a problem regarding the rent. The woman had been unable to reach the occupants of the residence.
