EHIME (TR) – Ehime Prefectural Police on Friday arrested a 41-year-old male for dumping the body of his mother in Matsuyama City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 28).
Following a confession by Takahiro Funata, police on Thursday unearthed the body of Kazuko Funata, 73, in the garden of the home they share.
At the end of July, a relative told police that Kazuko had not been seen since September or October of 2014. During questioning, the suspect indicated that his mother died in the fall of last year and that he buried her corpse.
According the Yomiuri Shimbun (Aug. 28), a bank account registered to Kazuko has been receiving between 60,000 and 70,000 yen every two months in pension payments. On several occasions, money had been removed from the account.
