AKITA (TR) – Akita Prefectural Police on Sunday arrested a 55-year-old man in the stabbing death of a taxi driver, reports Nikkan Sports (Sep. 7).

At around 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, Jin Azumaya, a part-time worker, is suspected of stabbing Yoshitsugi Tanaka, 66, at a roadside parking lot in Kazuno City. The suspect also allegedly robbed the victim of money and property.

The victim received multiple stab wounds to the abdomen. He was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.

Azumaya, who has been charged with murder and robbery, admits to killing the driver but he has not commented on the robbery charge.

About 10 minutes before the incident, Tanaka responded to a call from his taxi company about a customer waiting at a supermarket in Kazuno.

When police arrived at the scene, Tanaka was found collapsed on the ground and covered in blood near his taxi, which still had its engine running.

Azumaya was identified as a suspect after a review of the taxi’s surveillance footage revealed a man in a black mask and white shorts demanding money from Tanaka with a knife.
