AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police are investigating two cases in which what are believed to be corpses have been found in burned out vehicles parked in separate locations in Toyota City over a roughly half-day period.

At around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, a man living at a warehouse in the Takaokahonmachi area tipped off police about a burned out passenger vehicle found inside the premises, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Mar. 29).

Police from the Toyota Police Station arriving at the scene found what is believed to be the charred corpse of an adult person inside the vehicle. An investigation is now underway to determine the identity of the person, the owner of the vehicle and the cause of the fire.

At around 6:20 p.m. the day before, a taxi driver alerted emergency services about a vehicle on fire at a parking lot at Yahagi Ryokuchi Kawabata Park, located along the Yahagi River in the Ochiaicho area, according to the Nagoya Broadcasting Network (Mar. 29).

After four fire trucks arriving at the scene extinguished the blaze in about 50 minutes, what are likely human bones were found in the driver’s seat. Police are seeking to determine the owner of the vehicle.

The locations of the two discoveries are about 12 kilometers apart. There has been no indication on the part of police that the two cases are related.
