TOKYO (TR) – The agency of actress Tomoko Tabata claims that an incident that caused her to be rushed to a hospital was an accident and not a suicide bid, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Nov. 7).
At approximately 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, Tabata, 34, was found with her left wrist slit by her boyfriend, 38-year-old actor Yoshinori Okada, inside his apartment in Setagaya Ward.
The actor then accompanied her inside an ambulance to a local hospital, where she is being treated for minor injuries.
Multiple news outlets speculated that the incident was the result of a suicide attempt. On Friday, however, Tabata’s agency denied such speculation, saying in a statement that the actress had injured herself while cutting a pumpkin.
Other reports indicated that Tabata took a sleeping powder before the incident. The agency also said that was not factual.
Tabata is expected to resume work on November 14.
