14-year-old boy arrested over ¥8,000 dine-and-dash feast in Takamatsu

KAGAWA (TR) – Kagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a middle school boy accused of gorging himself on an 8,000-yen meal at a local restaurant before fleeing without paying the bill, reports TBS News (June 19).

On June 1, the boy, 14, allegedly ordered 12 items at a restaurant in Takamatsu City. His massive order included hamburg steaks, rice, french fries, and cola. After finishing the feast, which totaled 8,190 yen, he slipped out of the establishment without settling the tab, according to police.

Authorities were alerted on the afternoon of June 4 when a representative from the victimized restaurant called to report that a customer had bolted without paying.

Following a police investigation, officers identified the teenager and took him into custody on June 18 on suspicion of fraud.

Upon his arrest, the boy admitted to the allegations, reportedly telling investigators, “There is no mistake.”

Police are currently investigating his motive and looking into whether the teen has been involved in any other similar offenses.
