1,000-kilometer drive: Miyazaki man suspected of dumping corpse of mother in Nagano

NAGANO (TR) – Nagano Prefectural Police have arrested a 35-year-old man from Miyazaki Prefecture for allegedly dumping the body of an elderly woman in a mountainous area.

According to police, the body is believed to be the mother of suspect Takahiro Kai, a resident of Nobeoka City. The suspect has also hinted at murder, reports TBS News (Apr. 7).

Kai, of no known occupation, is accused of abandoning the corpse of the woman in the remote mountains of the town of Anan on or around March 24.

Upon his arrest by on April 6, Kai admitted to allegations of abandoning a corpse. According to investigators, his statements during police questioning have also suggested his direct involvement in her killing.

Kai lives with his mother and father. Nobeoka is located nearly 1,000 kilometers from Nagano Prefecture.

The case began to unravel when relatives filed a missing person report on March 27 for both Kai and his elderly mother.

Police are now rushing to formally identify the deceased, operating under the strong suspicion that the victim is the suspect’s own missing mother.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities probe the suspect’s timeline and the exact circumstances that led to the cross-country drive and disposal of the body in the Nagano wilderness.
