CHIANG MAI (TR) – Thai police have arrested a 49-year-old Japanese man in Chiang Mai, located in the northern part of Thailand, who is under investigation for the sexual assault of a number of boys, reports Nippon News Network (May 25).

On Wednesday, police arrested Teruaki Matsubara, a Hokkaido Prefecture native, for allegedly sexually assaulting two boys around the age of 10.

According to police, Matsubara has visited Thailand 21 times on short-term visas over the past two years. A neighbor of a guest house where he regularly stays saw Matsubara regularly. “I do not know what was going on, but I saw children entering his room,” the neighbor is quoted.

Matsubara denies the charges, according to NHK (May 25).

During the investigation, police also seized Matsubara’s computer, which contained videos featuring 10 boys.

Police are now investigating Matsubara for possible crimes involving seven other boys.
