Yuto Konno was taken into custody on Tuesday in Tagaytay, Cavite province, located in the southern part of Luzon island, according to Philippine officials.
Japanese police had previously obtained an arrest warrant for Konno on suspicion of forcible sexual intercourse and other related sex crimes committed in Japan.
