TOKYO (TR) – A wealthy university student who grew up in luxury apartments, was chauffeured in foreign cars, and didn’t know how to ride a train until high school has revealed her surprising pivot to the adult video (AV) industry.
Currently performing under the name Mayu Misaki, the actress recently detailed to Nikkan Spa! (Oct. 18) her bizarrely privileged upbringing and the motivations that drove her from high society into the adult entertainment world.
Misaki, whose parents are corporate executives, was raised in the upper echelons of Tokyo real estate, transitioning from a rental home costing 1.5 million yen a month into a luxury high-rise apartment building.
“I honestly had no idea we were well-off. I wonder when I finally realized…maybe around the time I was in university?” she says.
Luxury foreign cars
Her childhood was defined by immense wealth. While her monthly allowance was strictly controlled, her parents spared no expense on education and hobbies, paying roughly 300,000 yen per month for piano lessons and 350,000 yen for ballet. Vacations meant regular trips to Hawaii, Singapore, and the U.S., while daily life involved a live-in housekeeper.
The heiress was so sheltered that she was completely disconnected from the realities of everyday life. Chauffeured in her parents’ fleet of luxury foreign cars, she did not ride a train until high school.
“I didn’t know how to use an IC transit card, and I didn’t understand the difference between local and express trains. I cried heavily and complained to my mom,” Misaki recalled. Desperate to fit in with peers, she once lied and claimed she carried “10 Suica cards,” believing that holding more cards made her seem “stronger,” much like Pokémon cards.
Her detachment from the general public extended to food and transport. Accustomed to exclusive French and Italian courses, she was unable to differentiate between the two cuisines because eating them was merely an everyday routine. Furthermore, she revealed she became carsick in standard vehicles because she was only used to the smell of authentic leather seats in high-end, high-clearance foreign cars.
Nepotism hire
It wasn’t until her third year of high school that she visited a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant, where she was baffled by the touch panels and entirely unable to grab plates off the moving lane.
Despite her elite upbringing and attendance at exclusive “rich girl” schools, Misaki chose a vastly different path. Describing herself as a “stimulus junkie,” she craved interaction with a wider variety of people and refused to follow a conventional route, such as taking a nepotism hire at her parents’ company.
When she decided to become independent, she faced a harsh reality: she could not lower her exorbitant standard of living.
“To maintain the same lifestyle I had when relying on my parents, I knew I had to earn big money,” she explained.
Parents unaware
Currently, her parents are unaware of her AV career, believing instead that she works as a club hostess. Misaki admits they would be devastated to learn the truth, having frequently asked her, “We never let you struggle and gave you everything you wanted, so what happened to make you do this?”
Despite her plunge into the adult industry, her aristocratic background occasionally surfaces in unexpected ways. While many actresses complain about cheap 1,000-yen location bento boxes provided on set, Misaki is thrilled by them, having never eaten standard bento boxes growing up.
However, her lack of financial grounding remains.
“I honestly have no idea what the ‘market value’ of my naked body is,” Misaki admitted. “I don’t know what other actresses make or the criteria for how pay is decided.”
Armed with the strict etiquette and posture drilled into her since childhood, Misaki continues to navigate the adult industry, driven not by financial desperation, but by a desire for attention. “I want to be incredibly popular with men, and I want to always be treated like a princess,” she said.
