TOKYO (TR) – Yuka Tada made waves in June 2022 when she debuted as an adult video (AV) actress at the age of 42.
However, it wasn’t just her age-defying looks that shocked the public. Rather, it was her elite background as a former international flight attendant and a public secretary for a Diet lawmaker.
In a recent interview with Spa! (July 23), Tada revealed the sensational reasons behind her drastic career changes, detailing a life spent escaping a “toxic” mother, enduring rampant sexism in Japanese politics, and navigating a bizarre open marriage with a philandering husband.
“I faced so much unreasonableness”
According to Tada, her stint in the political world was the direct catalyst for her AV debut. Working as a state-funded public secretary for a politician, she was subjected to constant misogyny.
“Everything was blamed on the fact that I was a woman. I faced so much unreasonableness,” Tada said. “I decided that if they were going to constantly harp on me ‘being a woman,’ I was going to do a job that only a woman could do.” Combined with her own sexual curiosity and the unpredictability of the COVID-19 pandemic, she decided to take the plunge.
Her unconventional life choices began decades earlier. Tada originally became a flight attendant simply to flee her overbearing, “toxic” mother. Desperate to compensate for a father who wanted a son, Tada’s mother micro-managed her life and even secretly phoned her boyfriends to force them to break up.
“As a flight attendant, I’d be out of Japan a lot. If I just lived alone locally, she would have shown up at my house,” Tada explained.
“It’s your life”
Before stepping in front of the adult camera, Tada waited until her only child had reached legal adulthood. When she confessed her plans to enter the porn industry, her child gave a mature blessing: “It’s your life. If it’s what you really want to do, go ahead.”
Her husband’s reaction was vastly different, though his hands were tied by his own scandalous behavior. Tada revealed her husband is a serial womanizer, meaning he was in no position to criticize her career choice. “He knew that if he complained, I’d just fire back with, ‘Look who’s talking,'” she laughed. His only condition was that she never bring her industry work or stage name into their conversations.
“I can’t promise I’ll stop playing around”
The couple’s marriage has survived despite the husband’s blatant infidelity. Tada admitted she nearly divorced him twice, but he once kneeled at her bedside while she slept, begging her to stay. In the same breath, however, he admitted, “I can’t promise I’ll stop playing around.”
The two now live separately but maintain an amicable relationship, dining together weekly and going on regular trips. Tada says her husband has completely come around and is now her “biggest supporter.”
Tada is unashamed of her new life, even coming clean to her personal hairdressers and manicurists before her debut so they could help style her for her explicit shoots, forming what she calls “Team Yuka Tada.”
“We have a good distance and get along well,” Tada said of her marriage and new life. “I think this is just a new form of family.”
