On October 1, adult video (AV) label Muteki will release ‘What a Day,’ the debut DVD for actress Anri Sakaguchi.
According to Nikkan Gendai (Sept. 10), the disc represents a significant career shift, one which may have dire consequences for the 25-year-old actress.
“Her first porn DVD is technically an AIV, or adult image video,” says an industry insider. “Of course, she appears fully nude, but the action with the actor is soft in nature. For example, her tongue crawls along a plastic model of male genitalia. As well, masturbation scenes are really subdued as far as content.”
On November 4, publisher Kodansha will issue a fully nude photograph book featuring Sakaguchi. For a sneak peek, the current issue of Shukan Gendai (Sept. 24) includes a spread taken from the publication.
Sakaguchi, a Tokyo native, began appearing in a number of television series after entering the entertainment business in 2008. Two years ago, she had a starring role in “Honey Flappers,” which chronicles the lives of hostesses at a club in Tokyo’s Roppongi entertainment district. The following year, she was the cover girl of the final issue of fashion magazine Jiggy.
Sakaguchi is the daughter of popular actress Ryoko Sakaguchi. “My mother wants me to get married quickly,” she told Nikkan Gendai in March of 2012. Her mother passed away one year later after a bout with colon cancer.
Point of no return
The move may represent a point of no return for Sakaguchi. Other celebrities who entered the AV industry, including actress Kimika Yoshino and singer Sachiko Suzuki, one half of the pop duo Wink, have had little success in the entertainment world thereafter.
For Sakaguchi, her decision may have been forced due to financial pressure. Rumors have been circulating in tabloids that she is heavily in debt, possibly accrued via visits to host clubs.
That’s not all. According to Nikkan Gendai, the commercial sex trade may be next. So-called “delivery health” parlors in the capital, such as Tora no Ana (Tiger Hole), often employ active AV actresses. “And Sakaguchi’s name has been surfacing,” says the aforementioned insider.
