TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested an organized crime member for allegedly confining and beating a male acquaintance over money claimed to be owed for restaurant bills, reports TV Asahi (Sept. 7).
In July, Tomohiro Domae, a 34-year-old member of the Yamaguchi-gumi, summoned the acquaintance, 33, to the Kabukicho red-light district in Shinjuku Ward. The suspect then allegedly confined the man inside a vehicle and repeatedly beat him.
The victim managed to escape by grabbing the steering wheel to get the vehicle to stop on a freeway in Itabashi Ward and climbing out a window, according to Nippon News Network (Sept. 7). The suspect then chased the victim down and beat him again.
Injuries to the victim required two weeks to heal.
The suspect had claimed that the victim him owed him one million yen in “unpaid loans” for meal fees.
Domae has declined to comment on the charges, telling police that he would like to speak to a lawyer.
