TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested an organized crime member for allegedly issuing death threats in an extortion plot in Mitaka City, reports TV Asahi (Aug. 21).
Earlier this month Kazunori Hashimoto, a 51-year-old member of the Sumiyoshi-kai, is alleged to have visited a restaurant and threatened to kill the 43-year-old malemanager should he refuse to pay mikajimeryo or protection money.
The suspect also allegedly threatened to destroy the restaurant.
Hashimoto has denied the allegations, telling police he did not say any such thing.
After making the threats, the suspect left the restaurant. He said that he would return. The manager then consulted with police.
Police are now investigating Hashimoto for participation in other crimes.
