TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Monday announced the arrest of an organized crime member on charges of attempted extortion of a hostess club in Sumida Ward, reports TBS News (Oct. 27).
Officers took Atsushi Suda, a 34-year-old member of the Kodo-kai organized crime group, an affiliate gang of the Yamaguchi-gumi, and two other suspects for allegedly demanding “protection” money — termed mikajimeryo — from the 45-year-old manager of a kyabakura hostess club in the Kinshicho entertainment area on May 23 and 24.
The suspects allegedly demanded one million yen from the manager after he was only provide 50,000 yen.
During questioning, Suda has remained silent. However, the other two suspects have admitted to the charges.
