IBARAKI (TR) – Following two violent incidents earlier this month, a school is taking legal action to ban an organized crime group from a nearby office in Mito City, reports reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Mar. 30).
Based on the School Health and Safety Act, representatives from an elementary school in the Yanakawacho area filed a request with the Mito District Court that seeks to prohibit access to an office of the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi.
Representatives of the school, located about 50 meters from the office, are concerned about the safety of the students.
At approximately 2:00 a.m on March 6, an unknown gunman fired five shots into exterior walls and a window of the first floor of the office. The day before, Ibaraki police arrested a 40-year-old member of the Kodo-kai, a gang affiliated with the Yamaguchi-gumi, for allegedly ramming a truck into another vehicle parked at the same office.
The Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi formed following the dissolution of the Yamaguchi-gumi last summer. Police are viewing incidents as part of a surge in violence in recent weeks between the Yamaguchi-gumi and the Kobe Yamaguchi-gumi.
The outbreak of violent incidents has increased the concern and sense of responsibility of local residents, the content of the submitted request said.
