ISHIKAWA (TR) – Ishikawa Prefectural Police have referred a male police sergeant in his 30s to prosecutors on suspicion of leaking investigative information to a member of a criminal syndicate, reports Fuji News Network (Nov. 22).
The male police sergeant, who belonged to the Criminal Investigation Division, was referred to prosecutors due an inappropriate relationship with a member of the yakuza syndicate, which is a violation of the Local Public Servants Act.
According to police, the sergeant dined at a yakiniku restaurant in mid-June with a member of a criminal organization who was the subject of an investigation.
The member allegedly paid approximately 10,000 yen for food and drinks. The sergeant also received 50,000 yen in cash for taxi fare.
The sergeant is then suspected of leaking investigative information to the syndicate using a messaging app on his smartphone.
On November 21, Ishikawa police referred the sergeant to the Kanazawa District Public Prosecutors Office in dismissing him.
The sergeant said, “I wanted to build a relationship with the criminal organization and use it to help with the investigation.”
