Man suspected of stabbing father and mother in Kyoto nabbed in Osaka

KYOTO (TR) – A suspected in the stabbing of his elderly mother and father on a street in Kyoto City earlier this week has been arrested in Osaka Prefecture, law enforcement said on Saturday.

Early on Saturday, an officer apprehended Norio Kitamine, 50, as he walked in a residential area in Kadoma City, Osaka.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, he declined to comment. “I want to talk to my father and mother,” he said, according to NHK (Mar. 8).

Just before 4:00 p.m. on March 4, Kitamine allegedly used a knife to stab his father, 79, and mother, 71, in Kyoto City’s Fushima Ward.

The couple, who live in Kadoma, suffered injuries to their faces and other parts of their bodies, but their lives are not in danger, police said.

According to the police, Kitamine drove to the scene with his parents in a car. After the incident, the car was found on fire about 200 meters away. Ketamine fled the scene.

Police placed Kitamine on a wanted list three days later. Police also released security camera footage showing his face.

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident and whether Kitamine set fire to the vehicle.
