OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have revealed that a former bar hostess in custody on suspicion of assault for allegedly cutting off the ring finger on the left hand of her boyfriend carried out the crime after they talked about breaking up.
According to police, Saki Sato, 23, told the police officers who rushed to the scene that “we both got violent after we talked about breaking up.” The victim reportedly complained that “the fight escalated and she punched me in the face multiple times,” reports the Sankei Shimbun (Apr. 27).
Police announced the arrest and indictment of Sato on suspicion of assault last week.
About two years ago, the relationship began when the man became interested in Sato after seeing her posts on a social networking site and contacted her. At the time, the man was a high school student and she was working at a hostess club. The two began dating around May 2023. The following July, they began living together in Osaka City’s Kita Ward.
According to the indictment, Sato’s first crime was carried out on September 30 of the same year, when she is alleged to have cut off the man’s nipple with scissors. On October 19, she allegedly used an axe to sever the ring finger on his left hand.
“So that I couldn’t marry another woman”
When questioned by the prefectural police, Sato denied the allegations. “[He] cut off his nipple as a joke,” she said. “[He] used my smartphone to order an axe and cut off his ring finger on his left hand,” she added.
The man explained to police, “She suspected me of cheating. So, she cut off my ring finger so that I couldn’t marry another woman.” He added, “I heard that nipples regenerate, so [I] decided to try it.”
At one point, Sato confiscated the man’s bankbook and smartphone and kept them in a safe, police said.
The incident first came to light when Sato called police in January of this year to report trouble in their relationship. Upon arrival at the residence, the man’s ring finger was found in a glass vial containing a liquid.
The axe has not been found. Based on the defendant’s smartphone search history, it is believed that one about 40 centimeters long.
