TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested a male Chinese youth over the alleged stabbing of a woman with a kitchen knife on a street in Shibuya Ward on Thursday night, reports TBS News (Sep. 6).

Emergency personnel arriving at the scene found the woman with wounds to the back of the head and her hands. She was transported to a hospital in a conscious state. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

Police arrested the unnamed youth, 19, on suspicion of assault resulting in injury. “I did it because I wanted to kill someone,” the suspect was quoted by police in admitting to the allegations.

The suspect and the woman are not believed to be acquaintances. Police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
